Where are we going? What will we do there?

The Dominican Republic shares the Caribbean island of Hispaniola with Haiti.

The Dominican Republic is known for its many beautiful Caribbean beaches, like this one.

But that's not were we will be.

Our hosts, Carlos and Kimberly Verhulst are missionaries in Crucero on the outskirts of Jarabacoa, in the central mountains of the Dominican Republic.

In Crucero, things look more like this:

That's Carlos in the red shirt.  Carlos and Kimberly work with a mission organization called Serge.  You can find out a little more about them and their work on their Serge website.

While it the Dominican Republic, we will get to meet many of the people Carlos and Kimberly work and partner with, and with community leaders from the communities near where they live.  We'll experience a little bit of what their lives are like (including learning to dance the Merengue and make Dominican food) and how the lack of access to clean water affects their lives.  We'll also get to work with Carlos and Kimberly in the context of some of the activities they help organize through La Mesa (the table), one of the community ministries they have established.  (We'll also get to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and warmer weather in the DR.)

If you want to know more about Kimberly and Carlos and their work, you can read some of their recent newsletters.  Our team is mentioned in the last newsletter of 2023.
